Q: I find your book Origins of the Specious intriguing, but I disagree that "octopi" is an example of a common misconception in English."Octopi" is generally seen as objectionable. The plural "octopuses" is preferred in both the US and the UK.

The Morning Star wishes to make clear that the reference to Care UK in the lead story on page 5 yesterday (Elderly go hungry on hospital wards) was entirely erroneous and unjustified. The company mentioned was in no way involved in the incident reported.

A photo accompanying a Monday World News article about an alleged crackdown by Saudi Arabia on political activists was of Suliman al-Reshoudi, who is being detained by the government and is represented by Mohammed al-Qahtani, co-founder of the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association.

In a Sept. 1 Twitter posting from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that appeared on ESPN.com's NFL page, a report that Byron Westbrook had been released by the Washington Redskins was incorrect. Westbrook remains with the Redskins.

By Ryan Chittum Up here in Seattle, The Stranger is doing a good job keeping an eye on how industry is flooding the state with money to pass a ballot initiative this fall. The state is in budget crisis, like most others, and the legislature passed a temporary tax on junk food (it is slated to expire in 2013).
