Featured Job Post: Senior Production Editor for ALA Editions

ALA Editions, the American Library Association’s book-publishing imprint, is looking for a senior production editor to join its Chicago staff. ALA provides services and information to association members and nonmembers, sharing its “vision of the importance of libraries, literacy and free access to information.” ALA Editions publishes resources for information professionals around the globe.
The senior production editor will work under the managing editor to accomplish the editorial production of books and periodical/serial publications that include Huron Street Press acquisitions and Library Technology Reports. Responsibilities will be evaluating manuscripts; supervising freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers; communicating with authors; and maintaining publishing schedules. Some design and composition may also be included.
This full-time production editor position requires a bachelor’s degree and two to three years of experience, including responsibility for editorial production in book publishing. Successful candidate will be proficient with MS Word, experienced with Adobe InDesign, and able to expertly apply the Chicago Manual of Style. The starting salary for the senior production editor is negotiable, based on experience, with a range that begins “in the high 30s.” Benefits include health and dental insurance, a 401k, generous paid vacation, and flexible hours.
