Now that you have officially declared yourself a copyeditor, the world must know about your qualifications and abilities. Here is a list of how to start.
1.) Develop an Online Portfolio
- In this generation, you’re not a company without a website. This includes the freelancer. The first task most potential clients do is google your name to find out if you have credentials. Prove you do with a professional-looking website.
2.) Create a Linkedin profile (http://www.linkedin.com)
- The next place most tech-savvy potential clients look for you is Linkedin. Keep your profile professional and be sure to include just a few sentences to outline exactly what it is you can do for them.
3.) Create Business Cards
- Always have these on hand. I learned this the hard way when at a wedding and made connection only to not have my information for them (or a pen.)
4.) Tell All Your Friends (Even the ones you think won’t listen)
- Do not write anyone off as not interested. It does not matter who the friend or acquaintance is, they will already know someone or will meet someone soon who can bring you work. What can hurt your business is not telling the right person.
Work comes from the strangest places. Use every opportunity to talk about your business in a way that will benefit the other person and work will fill your inbox.
