Out of Print’s Book Madness Tournament
As a previously avid follower of college basketball, I sometimes miss the single-elimination thrill of NCAA tournament season. Perhaps you know it by “March Madness,” a term that, prior to the 1980s, referred to high school basketball tournaments, especially those in my home state of Illinois. Happily, there’s a new tournament in town, uniquely capable of fulfilling a lapsed-sports-fan/lifelong-book-fan’s braketology needs: Book Madness.
Book Madness, a single-elimination tournament of books, is put on by Out of Print, a company that designs clothing and accessories that feature iconic book covers. In the inaugural Book Madness tournament in 2011, To Kill a Mockingbird defeated The Great [but not greatest] Gatsby to take home the trophy. Last year, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo beat The Blind Assassin to become the champion of twenty-first century fiction. In this year’s tournament, 64 science fiction/fantasy books will vie for the title.
The bracket unveiling is scheduled for today with tournament voting set to begin on March 18 25. Fill out your brackets for a chance to win Out of Print prizes (including a $500 gift card!). Then participate in the voting to see your favorite sci-fi/fantasy book become 2013 Book Madness champion!
Update: According to Out of Print's Facebook Page, they reopened nominations to allow more fans a chance to participate. But the brackets are now up, the prizes are announced, and both are well worth a look. There are some brutal matches! How do you think your favorites will do?
