State of the Style Guides
Thursday, October 19, 2017, 3–4:30 pm
This is an INTERMEDIATE SKILLS course
Instructor: Mark Allen
It has been a great year for style. The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition releases in September; the Associated Press Stylebook was updated in May. The Government Printing Office also released a new edition of their style manual.
This class will look at what you need to know in 2017’s style guides, and it will examine the chicken-and-egg relationship between style guides and general usage. We’ll also discuss the circumstances in which our style guides should be valiantly defended or quietly ignored.
In this Master Class, you will learn:
- What you need to know about the style guide updates of 2017
- How style guides respond to the evolving language
- How to decide what style guide or guides fit your publication’s needs
All Master Class times are in Eastern Time (ET). Master classes are run as webinars through GoToMeeting. Only those who register will receive the login information.
